Southwest Vacation Feb23 - Death Valley NP
Golden Canyon Trail

Leaving the Harmony Borax Works, we headed south through Furnace Creek and down to the trailhead for the Golden Canyon Trail.   It was a mile hike through the Golden Canyon and then another quarter mile to the Red Cathedral.  We returned the way we came; we did not continue on the loop trail.

We turned off Badwater Road onto a dirt road to the trailhead.

Now were hiking the Golden Canyon Trail.

Some rugged terrain.

Looks like there was a road here in the past.

The canyon walls are definately golden.

Red Cliffs begin to emerge overhead as we climb.

Looking back.

The red cliffs lose their color as we get close.  This is the Red Cathedral area.

The trail got a little challenging in its final stages.

We climbed up to this excellent overlook.  At this point we weren't sure if we were on a trail or not.  After enjoying the view for awhile, we turned back.

The trailhead parking lot comes into sight.
